French – In the morning, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – Today, we started looking at rotational symmetry. Lines of symmetry are associated with reflections, but rotational symmetry is associated with rotations. A figure that coincides with itself more than once when rotated a full turn or less has rotational symmetry. So, for example, a square has a rotational symmetry of order 4, because when it is rotated, it will coincide with itself 4 times. A figure that only coincides with itself with one full turn is considered to have no rotational symmetry.
Inquiry into Coding – Today, we continued building our houses and refining the coding to ensure all the criteria were met. We also started exploring animations for our next upcoming mini-project, which we will be starting on Monday.
Inquiry into Language – To recap what we have learned so far:
· Catchy titles
· Relevant pictures
· Relevant quotations
· Questions being answered:
o What?àWhat happened?
o Where?àWhere did this take place?
o When?àWhen did this take place?
o How?àHow did this come about?
o Why?àWhy did this happen?
o Who?àWho was involved?
Yesterday, we looked at the organizational structure of newspaper articles. It goes as follows: introduction, who, when, where, what, why, how, and conclusion. We will start practicing writing an article for tomorrow.
Today, we wrote a very basic article. We discussed how we could improve this newspaper article and how we would make it better. On Monday, we are going to turn it from a lower level to a level 4+!
For homework:
· MMS Pg. 106-107 (due tomorrow)
· Practice scratch cards 9 & 10 (animations and moving animations)
· Practice for Wizard of Oz
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.
Mr. Conte
