Wednesday, October 3rd

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful week. Wednesday is over, so we only have tomorrow, and then the Thanksgiving weekend!

This morning, we started off with reading buddies with Ms. Brew’s class.

Inquiry into Math – Today, we officially started our second unit of math, which is number patterns. We reviewed some of our learning from last year, and started discussing Input/Output machines. Each Input/Output machine as a pattern rule, and this rule must be followed for every set of numbers. For example, if the rule is ‘ x 5 + 2’ and you put the number ‘1’ in, 1 x 5 = 5, and 5 + 2 = 7. We completed our first chart together as a class.

Once our first set of numbers were finished, we noticed a pattern. In our ‘Output’ column of our chart, the numbers would go up by 5 every time. We determined that since ‘x5’ was in the pattern rule, that is why our outputs were increasing by 5 every time.

Then, we tried working backwards. We were given all of the values, and had to find the pattern rule. First, we found a pattern in our outputs and how much they were increasing by, which told us that there was multiplication. Then, we tried subtracting as well. We tested our rule for ALL of our numbers to ensure that it was correct.

After this, we completed questions 1a, 3, & 4 on pages 8 & 9 of our textbook. We took up the answers as a class after.

After math, we did a practice spelling test to prepare for our actual spelling test tomorrow.

In the afternoon, we had French, which you can read about on Mme. Rawan’s blog (link on the left).

Inquiry into Language – After French, we spent the remainder of the day preparing for International Day. We finalized our board and started decorating the class and doors. We can’t wait for tomorrow.
