Good afternoon everyone!
I hope everyone is having a great
week. We are certainly having a busy week here in grade five. The disadvantage
of a shortened week is there is so much more to do!
We started our day with gym, music,
and French in the afternoon, which you can read about on Mr. Orr, Mr. Oliver,
and Mme. Rawan’s blogs (links on the left).
Inquiry into Math – We continued
our lesson yesterday on number patterns. A reminder from yesterday: a recursive
pattern is a pattern where each term is found by applying the pattern rule to
the previous term. For example, if the rule is ‘ x 5 – 3 ’: 1 x 5 – 3 = 2, 2 x
5 – 3 = 7, 7 x 5 – 3 = 32, so our terms are 1, 2, 7, 32, etc. We did some
examples working forwards and backwards.
Then, we worked on questions 1, 2,
& 4 from our text.
Inquiry into Language – We read two
chapters of Percy Jackson today as a class. We finished chapters 11 & 12.
Students were given comprehension work for chapters 11 & 12. Chapter 11
comprehension is due tomorrow, and chapter 12 is due on Friday.
Tomorrow, a large part of our day
will be spent working on our final summative for matter. Students may bring in
their technology, and they can continue to research in class. We will be going
over expectations and what exactly to work on.

A final note: I apologize for any delayed
responses/emails this week so far. Truth be told, my laptop keyboard is making
decisions for when it does/does not want to work. I am hoping to have this
fixed by tomorrow. Any responses from me are being created through my on screen
keyboard.
As always, please feel free to
reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as
quickly as possible.
Mr. Conte
