I hope you’ve all had a great week!
Music – First, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).
French - Then, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math: We continued our inquiry into three-dimensional shapes from yesterday. The students had the opportunity to work on the work for the concepts of surface areaand volumewe covered yesterday. Just to recap:
Our question of inquiry: How do we measure three-dimensional shapes? When you have a 3D shape, the outline of this shape is called a net.
You can calculate surface area, which is the total sum of the areas of ALL the sides of a 3D shape. For a rectangular prism, there are 6 sides (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6). To find the surface area, we calculate the area of each side, and then add them all up! Remember that the units must be squared (the little 2) since it is area.
You can calculate volume, which is the total space inside a 3D shape. To find volume, we multiply the length by the width by the height (V = l x w x h). Since this measurement is the calculate 3D space, you cube the unit (the little 3).
Gym – Right after lunch, the students had gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Language – Today, the students wrote their spelling test for lesson 7. Then, they began working on their work for spelling lesson 8.
Inquiry into Ancient Civilizations – Today, the students continued their inquiry into Ancient Rome by looking into structures, food, and education. We will continue on Monday and consolidate all of our knowledge.
For homework:
- MMS Pages 86- 89 (due Monday)
- Ancient Rome worksheets (only the first three - due Monday)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.
Since I was not in the school today, I do not have any photos, but what is listed above is what was covered today in class.
