Thursday, October 11th

Good afternoon everyone!

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday. This week has been flying by!

Inquiry into Math – We continued our unit on number patterns by looking into the rules for division in patterns. Here they are:
  • ·         A number is divisible by 2 if it is even.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of all the numbers in that number are divisible by 3.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits in the number are divisible by 4.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 5 if it ends in 5 or 0.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by 2 AND 3.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits are divisible by 8.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of all the numbers in that number are divisible by 9.
  • ·         A number is divisible by 10 if it ends in 0.

We first completed the chart as a class altogether.

Then, we worked on questions 1 & 4 on page 15 of our text.

We then took up our work as a class.

We then had a discussion on what our expectations for our matter summative are. We discussed our title, question, independent and dependent variables, hypothesis, materials, and procedure. An independent variable is a variable that is controlled by the person conducting the experiment. A dependent variable is what is being observed through the experiment. It is dependent on the independent variable.

In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (link on the left).

For the remainder of the day, we worked on the research for our matter summative. We will be continuing this tomorrow, and discuss what expectations there are for the weekend regarding the conducting of the experiment, and the observations.
