Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful
weekend. Mine was extremely busy. We’ve started our week with some not so great
weather, but the plus side is – that means the only option is the same or
better – no worse. In addition to this, it is a short week since we have a P.D.
day on Friday.
This morning, we had our assembly
for the award of the month. The month of September was a month of Inquiry. Our
Inquirer winner for our class was Adn! Karina was a second winner for physical
education. Congratulations girls – you are definitely both very deserving!
Inquiry into Language – After our
assembly, we started our fourth spelling lesson of the year.
Our grade five spellers are
focussing on the sound of ‘n’ and ‘r’. The ‘n’ sound can be made by the letter combinations ‘kn’ or ‘gn’. The ‘r’ sound can
be made by the letter combinations ‘wr’
and ‘rr’. Our grade six spellers
were focussing on the letter ‘s’ and
the sounds it can make such as ‘s’,
‘z’, and ‘zh’. Our grade six spellers split into a focus group while the
grade five spellers worked with me on the story.
Inquiry into Math – We started our
final math assessment for whole numbers right after our spelling. We continued
in the afternoon after French.
In the afternoon, we had French,
which you can read about on Mme. Rawan’s blog (link on the left).
Inquiry into Math – We continued
our final math assessment.
Inquiry into Language – After our
second recess and lunch, we continued our research for International Day – we
are researching Greece. Today, we had our completed rough copies and started
working on our good copies.
For homework:
A couple of quick reminders:
- · A letter was sent home regarding the Caribou math contest. This is an optional contest for those who wish to take part in a math challenge. Please feel free to read through and email with any questions.
- · A letter was sent home regarding upcoming unit phone calls. Please fill out and return to me by sometime next week so I can know when/how best to contact you.
- · Tomorrow is our golf trip, so students will come dressed in their full gym uniforms, and bring their school uniform to change back into later on.
As always, please feel free to
reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as
quickly as possible.
Mr. Conte
