Inquiry into Math – We started by reviewing the homework from yesterday.

Then, we began looking at the different applications that probability has in the real world.

Music – Then, the students had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

French – After this, the students had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – In the afternoon, we continued our math lesson from the morning.

Inquiry into Canada in the World – Students continued to work on their brochures if they had not yet finished. Students who were done their brochures worked on their math.

The unit test for our Canada in the World unit will be moved to Monday, March 2nd.

Exhibition – Today, we began reviewing the essential elements of exhibition – I can’t believe we’re here already.

Exhibition is a 6 week long inquiry into a topic where students share their understanding of an issue or an opportunity of personal significance. This topic is chosen by the students and can either be an individual task or a group task. Either way, it will be collaborative because students must work together with other students, teachers, and parents to be successful. As far as the design goes, students will choose many things such as the inquiry they will be conducting, the central idea, the lines of inquiry, and much more. They will also develop their overall learning goal and the criteria they feel shows that they were successful.

We talked about key features in the entire learning process. These are things like:
·      Understanding and actively and authentically using the learner profiles (inquirer, knowledgeable, thinker, communicator, risk-taker, open-minded, caring, balanced, principled, and reflective).
·      The key concepts (form – what does it look like?, function – how does it work?, connection – how is it connected to other things?, causation – why is it like this?, change – how is it changing?, perspective – what are the different points of view, and responsibility – what are we responsible for?)
·      The transdisciplinary theme of Who We Are
·      The Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills that we use (social, self-management, thinking, communication, research)

We talked about how the topics chosen will have to be actionable, which means that students are able to take an active role in contributing to the solution of their issue. And lastly, we talked about assessment throughout and it is going to be focussed not only on the final product, but on the process throughout.

At the very end of the day, we went to the dome for Jump Rope for Heart in support of heart health. I apologize for the blurry pictures - it is really difficult to get a picture when people are in motion.

Homework:

We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.

As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
