Monday, March 2nd

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. A reminder that this week is Spirit Week – tomorrow is Book/Movie Character Day! We are getting closer and closer to March Break…

And since March Break is quickly approaching …

This week is Spirit Week! This is a free week for all students who wish to participate.

Until next Wednesday, the student council is selling Rafiki bracelets…

A few quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 3.

We started the day by playing two house games for Spirit Week. I am proud to say that Seta came out on top for the first house game for both teachers and students! We came in a very close second for the second house game to Kappa. Great job everyone.

Inquiry into Canada in the World – After the house game, we returned to class to write our final test for our fourth UOI, Canada in the World.

French – After this, the students had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).

After lunch, we went to watch the St. Jude’s vs. The Maples inter-school oral competition. Congratulations to our winners – Divyansh, Medha, and Julia!

Gym – After this, the students had gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).

Exhibition – We continued to talk about exhibition after gym. Today, we started examining the different roles of people in the exhibition process. We first talked about the role of the teacher. During the entire exhibition process, the teacher should act as a facilitator who guides the process and provides support by mentoring students and communicating regularly with both parents and students. The teacher will also make clear expectations and encourage the use of different sources while ensuring the participation of all students. Lastly, the teachers will empower students to take action, keep detailed notes of processes, and assess the overall learning in the exhibition process.

Throughout the process, students will be supported by teachers, mentors, and parents who will help guide the students toward success.

Students will be assessed on each component they complete. The rubrics, however, will be co-constructed by teachers and students and will be individualized to groups. Throughout the process, students will self-assess, mentors will assess, and the teacher (me), will assess them.

We will work on exhibition between Monday, March 23rd and Friday, May 1st. During this time, we will still carry on with math, but all other times of the day will be focussed heavily on exhibition.

Tomorrow, we will begin brainstorming topics for selection.

Inquiry into Canada in the World – At the end of the day, students worked on completing their final test for our fourth UOI, Canada in the World.

Homework:

We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.

As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
