Inquiry into Canada in the World – We started the day by reviewing HDI and we talked about what it means to be a global village. We did an activity with yarn to show how we are all interconnected and then we looked at what happens when one country falls out of this global connection.
Music – Then, the students had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).
French – After this, we had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – Today, we started our new unit on probability!
We reviewed converting between fractions, decimals, and percents.
We learned about listing the possible outcomes of a situation. For example, if you roll a single die, how many outcomes are there? There are 6. What happens when you roll two dice? There are 36 possible outcomes. We represent these using a tree diagram. A tree diagram is used to show possible outcomes in a situation that has two or more actions. We did examples as a class.
Art – We continued working on our Viking art. Whoever finished their art already worked on their math homework.
Inquiry into Canada in the World – Today, we started looking at our summative for this unit. Students will choose a developing nation with an HDI less than 0.55 and create a brochure for this country. This brochure will contain: physical features, economic features, political features, social features, what the country has to offer in terms of trade and services, and the HDI and needs of the country. They will use this brochure next week at the Ambassador’s Tea Party, where they will meet with other world leaders and talk about the needs of their country and try to find a country who can help them with these needs. Over the next two days, students will work on their research and will create the brochure over Wednesday and Thursday.
Homework:
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
