We started the day by handing out our awards for the month of February to those who demonstrate the learner profile of being open-minded. Great job Karina & Gokul!
Inquiry into Math – We started by reviewing the homework from yesterday.
We started looking at theoretical probability. Theoretical probability is the number of favourable outcomes divided by the number of possible outcomes. For example, when you roll a 6-sided die, you can roll a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. There are 6 possible outcomes and each outcome has an equal possibility. Therefore, the chance (probability of rolling a 1 is 1/6, 0.167, 16.7%).
French – After this, the students had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).
Gym – After recess and lunch, the students had gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – We finished the math lesson with a few examples to ensure we understood the concept.
Inquiry into Canada in the World – For the remainder of the day, students worked on their brochures. A reminder of the summative: Students will choose a developing nation with an HDI less than 0.55 and create a brochure for this country. This brochure will contain: physical features, economic features, political features, social features, what the country has to offer in terms of trade and services, and the HDI and needs of the country. They will use this brochure next week at the Ambassador’s Tea Party, where they will meet with other world leaders and talk about the needs of their country and try to find a country who can help them with these needs.
Students worked on their brochures using their research today and will complete them by tomorrow.
The unit test for our Canada in the World unit will be moved to Monday, March 2nd.
Homework:
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
