I hope everyone has had an amazing week. Don’t forget that students are off on Friday and Monday as we have a P.D. Day and Family Day.
It’s countdown season:

Inquiry into Math – Today, we looked at tiling patterns.
A figure is said to be tiling the plane when congruent figures are taken and placed or transformed in a way where a page is covered and no gaps are left.
A triangle always tiles the plane because at any point where vertices meet, the angles add to 360o.
A quadrilateral always tiles the plane because at any point where vertices meet, the angles add to 360o.
We reviewed why a regular pentagon could not tile a plane. We did a few examples as a class to see what tiling patterns look like.
This weekend, students will complete homework for tiling and the unit review in preparation for their test next Friday, February 21st.
French – After this, the students had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).
Gym – After recess and lunch, the students had gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Language – Yesterday, we continued to look at examples of persuasive letter writing, and here is what we’ve learned so far:
· Writing in the proper form of a letter, which includes being courteous and professional (addressing a specific person and signing it with our name), a date and the place from where the letter came, an introduction, a fully body, and a closing statement.
· Writing opinion works, which includes clarifying the issue, an opinion clearly stated, logical reasons that support your opinion, and a summary of that opinion.
· Using reasonable and relevant ideas that are connected to the main topic.
· Using critical and creative thinking processes and imagination in our writing.
· Transferring our own knowledge and skills and an ability to make connections to our own lives, through our experiences, into our writing.
Today, we looked at one last example of a persuasive letter. This last one was with a focus on ensuring that ideas are expressed logically and are organized, communicated for the correct audience, and expressed with the correct use of conventions and appropriate vocabulary.
Next week, we will focus on writing in the proper form of a letter and reviewing persuasive arguments. We will write a practice OWA that will be assessed and handed back with feedback that students can use to study over the weekend before the post-assessment.
Inquiry into Canada in the World – Today, students finalized their videos for their ‘Welcome to ______, Canada’ project. Students who finished their video project moved on to working on an art project.
Homework:
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
