I hope you’re all having a great week. We certainly had a fantastic day in Grade 5 today! For parents of students in my usual class, please feel free to visit Mrs. Haag’s blog at http://haagsja.blogspot.comto see what they did in grade 6!
A couple of quick reminders:
· Tomorrow is a Day 5.
· Speech forms were sent home yesterday. Please sign and return them as soon as possible – we will be starting speeches on Monday (my Grade 5s).
· Aftercare invoices are due on January 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
We had a fantastic Year-Ahead Day today in Grade 5. We had so much fun learning what we do in grade 5 and doing a lot of great activities!
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com)
Inquiry into Language – We read a chapter from Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which is one of our novel studies in grade 5. The students had a blast hearing this chapter from the book (a few want to ready the book now!). We even had a debate about the movie and whether or not it was good.
Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – During math, we played a game called Kahoot to review our knowledge of grade 4 math, and grade 5 math, and we even had a mental math competition! The students had so much fun that they wanted to lose recess to keep playing!
Inquiry into the Human Body – At the end of the day, we worked on building skeletons for our inquiry into the human body. The students had a great time putting together their skeletons!
I hope everyone had a fantastic day in grade five – I’m sad to send them back to grade four! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions about the program at sconte@stjudesacademy.com
