The week is almost done - one more day!
A very quick note: On Monday, the Grade 5 team sent home a notice regarding Fridays lesson for our current unit of inquiry into the human body. On Friday, January 18th, all students will spend the period learning about both reproductive systems. We will focus on images, proper terminology and puberty. Mrs. Hocevar and Ms. Cass will be teaching the girls, and myself and Mr. Orr will be teaching the boys. Please have a read and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
A couple of quick reminders:
· Tomorrow is a Day 4 – we DO NOT have gym.
· Summative packages were sent home Tuesday for our upcoming summative on the human body. We will begin working on this on Monday. Please read and review the assignment and rubric with your child and let me know if you have any questions.
· Speech forms were sent home last week. Please sign and return them as soon as possible.
· Aftercare invoices were due on January 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
· The grade ones will be holding a Farmer’s market on January 24th& 25th– all proceeds will go to Sick Kids hospital.
· Re-registration packages are due no later than February 11th, 2019 – at this point we will open registration to the public.
Today, we started our day with our Jump Rope for Heart assembly. Our goal as a school is to raise $2500 by the event date (February 14th). Our class is aiming to raise $150 – which is $15 each.
Inquiry into Language – Today, we worked on our 2ndand 3rdbody paragraphs for our speeches. These follow the same format as the first body paragraph. Tomorrow, we will be finalizing speeches with our conclusion.
French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – Today, we learned about scatter plots. A scatter plot is a set of ordered pairs on a grid. These are used to analyze trends. There can be 3 types: upward trend (the points are trending upward), downward trend (the points are trending downward), and no trend (the points appear to have no trend). These are used by businesses, weather persons, teachers, etc.
Inquiry into the Human Body – Today, we wrote our digestive system quiz and took up our work from yesterday finishing all our work on the digestive system. We will be covering the reproductive system tomorrow morning.
For homework:
· MMS Pg. 76-77 (due tomorrow)
· Speech body paragraphs 2 & 3 (due tomorrow)
· Spelling lesson 16 (tomorrow)
· Study for spelling tests (French & English)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.
Mr. Conte
