Friday, January 11th

I hope everyone has had a great week.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Monday is a Day 6.
·      Speech forms were sent home on Wednesday – please read, sign, and return them to me, and feel free to email me with any questions.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on January 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
We started our day with a lively discussion about what we all did during year-ahead day yesterday. The students had so much fun in grade six.

Inquiry into Math – We started our Data Management unit today, and started to learn about Interpreting Data. When you read a graph, you can get information from reading this graph (infer, interpret, describe, etc.) For example, in our circle graph below, we inferred that Ms. Hocevar has the most grade five students, Mr. Conte has the least, and Ms. Cass has less than Ms. Hocevar, but more than Mr. Conte. You can also compare data. In our pizza survey, twice as many people prefer cheese pizza to pepperoni pizza.

Inquiry into Language – We reviewed our writing conventions today this morning, and had some fun writing some descriptive sentences as a class.
1.    Noun – A person, place, or thing. Ex. Krina
2.    Verb – Action word. Ex. Skipping
3.    Adjective – Describes a noun. Ex. Pretty
4.    Adverb – Describes a verb. Ex. Gracefully

Inquiry into Language – Today, we read chapter three of Shannen and the Dream for a School. The students worked on their summary for chapter three, and then began to read ahead!

Inquiry into the Human Body – We continued to learn about the respiratory system and took up the work from Wednesday.

For homework:
·      Read for 20 minutes each day.
·      Complete a summary of chapter 3 for Shannen and read chapters 4 & 5 (due Monday)
·      Bring in speech topic and research (due Monday)
·      Complete activities 3 – 5 for the respiratory system (due Monday)
·      UOI poster (due Wednesay)
·      MMS Pg. 68-69 (due Monday)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
