Tuesday, January 22nd

I hope you’re all doing well.

A very quick note: In the event busses are not able to run tomorrow, we will have a regular school day instead.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 1 – we are skiing!
·      Summative packages were sent home last week for our summative on the human body. We began working on the summative yesterday.
·      Aftercare invoices were due on January 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      The grade ones will be holding a Farmer’s market on January 24th& 25th– all proceeds will go to Sick Kids hospital.
·      Re-registration packages are due no later than February 11th, 2019 – at this point we will open registration to the public, and your child will not be guaranteed their spot. We hope to see you again next year!
·      Permission forms were sent home Friday for our trip to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. They are due no later than Wednesday, March 6th, 2019.
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com)

Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – Today, we continued learning about probabilities by examining probability and percent. Let’s say you have a bag with 10 marbles (4 orange, 3 blue, 2 green, 1 red). The chances of pulling out an orange marble is 4/10, but there are more ways to represent that:
·      Words – You are most likely to pull out an orange marble.
·      Fraction – 4/10 OR 2/5
·      Decimal – 4/10 à0.4
·      Percent – 4/10 àmultiply both numerator and denominator by 10 to make a fraction out of 100. (4/10) x 10 = 40/100 which is 40%
We will be starting tree diagrams on Friday.

Inquiry into the Human Body – Students continued working on their summative for our current unit of inquiry (the human body).

For homework:
·      MMS Pg. 158 – 159 (due Thursday)
·      Practice speech
·      Reregistration packages are due by February 11th
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
