Good morning everyone!
We will begin the day on Discord in the Grade 6 General Meeting room at 8:45am where we will review how our day will run today.
If you are one of the spelling bee contestants, be sure to keep practicing your spelling. Have someone in your family quiz you each day. Your contest takes place tomorrow. The JK – Grade 2 Spelling Bee takes place today. You may be excused to support a younger sibling who is participating. We ask that you attend when it is their grade’s turn and then return to class when their grade has completed their contest.
Remember to update your parents about all we are discussing during our inquiry unit. They are the most important ‘trusted adults’ in your lives.
Our next Lower School assembly is this Thursday.

Language: 100-word story
Continue discussing writing a story in exactly 100 words (the title is not counted as part of the story).
It can be about anything. It will be shared with the class. It will be put through the entire writing process. Today’s goal is to find a friend (or two) to read your story and provide suggestions on ways to improve your ideas and details. All revision and editing comments will be added using the ‘comment’ feature on Google Docs. Once everyone understands, everyone keeps quiet and reads and makes comments. At the end of class time, students share their progress. All work MUST be complete in class time and must be 100% student work.

Novel Study
Learning Goal: Students will track characters and begin to understand foreshadowing as a literary device.
We will meet as a class to discuss your responses to Chapter 3 questions and perspective prompts. You will then read Chapter 4 and answer discussion questions. The homework for Chapter 4 is very long. We will provide you with 2 days to complete this work. The activities for this Chapter will be due at 8 p.m. tomorrow evening. This chapter’s activity is a character study and foreshadowing. We will discuss what foreshadowing is as a class tomorrow.
You may choose to join a
breakout room where students read silently, or you may choose to join a
breakout room where students take turns reading aloud.

Inquiry into My Digital Footprint
Learning Goal: Students will better understand how to protect themselves and their peers from abduction.
Today we will watch the
Amy’s Choice video – a true story about a 15-year old girl who ran away from
home to meet in person with a man she first met online. You will answer
questions about how Amy was at risk and how you can avoid similar situations
by communicating with trusted adults such as your parents.
Refer students to the
Amy’s Choice worksheet that you downloaded from ManageBac yesterday. Review
today’s learning goal and what you think happened to Amy.
You will then watch the
video Amy’s Choice. It is important
to remember that Amy did not know the individual she met in person and she
had no control over the situation. This put her at risk. Do not concentrate
on the details of the assault. We will discuss the video and questions as a
class. You will complete the answering of the questions on your worksheet and
submit to Managebac by 9 am tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27th.
You will learn more about
the real-world safety pledge and discuss ways to keep yourself safer in
everyday situations. This pledge is shared via ManageBac (under ‘Files’). I
encourage you to print it out, discuss it with your parents, modify it with
your parent’s comments and suggestions, and sign it.

Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
