Thursday, May 14th, Day 1

Good morning everyone!

We are at the end of the first week of regular scheduling and we have accomplished a lot. Well done to you all. Completing the Term 3 comprehension test is the focus of our day today. Tomorrow you get a well-deserved break when we get together for Boredom Buster Day. The day begins at 9 am and runs until noon.
We will begin the day on Discord in the Grade 6 General Meeting room at 8:45 where we will review how our day will run today.

In case you didn’t already know, St. Jude’s Academy is putting together our first yearbook spanning from JK to Grade 12 for the 2019-2020 academic year. This inaugural issue will be something all students and their families will treasure. The cost is $20 per full-colour, hardcover yearbook. The deadline to order is May 15. To order your copy contact:  admin@stjudesacademy.com

SJA Yearbook Sponsorship opportunities are available. We will accept a limited number of ads (10 pages) from businesses, groups and families in our SJA Community to help off-set this publication. Design included if required. Deadline to order is May 15. The space options are as follows: Full Page  (7.5” x 8”) $500 or Half Page (7. 5”x 4”) $250.  To place an Ad contact: csawatsky@stjudesacademy.com

A few messages from SJA:

Daily Challenge – This week is our Thumbless Wars!  To complete each of the challenges you should wrap your thumb so it can’t be used. A bandage that folds it down, or duct tape (make sure you wrap in cling-wrap first so it doesn’t hurt taking the tape off!!).  Whatever you need to use to make sure your thumb can’t be used.

Remember: each week we award a prize to the student who sends the most and best videos.  The prize is an Uber Eats dinner of your choice worth $50!

This is the last day of the Thumbless Wars! Today’s challenge is something you do every day – put a jacket on.  Of course, you’ll have no use of your thumbs so that might be a little harder than you’re used to. To win this challenge, put the jacket on and zip it up, sending the video to Mr. Neal (sneal@stjudesacademy.com).

The winner of this week’s challenges will be contacted tomorrow so they can order their big Uber Eats dinner – but don’t worry, if your parents say it’s okay you can start using your thumbs again!

DRA: Comprehension
Learning Goal: Students will demonstrate their understanding of their chosen text.
Your teacher will share a PDF version of your chosen text for you to download and read. You will also receive a link to a document where you will complete the comprehension questions relating to the text. You must complete this test in one sitting. You are allowed a maximum time of 2 hours. We will complete this on Zoom. Because it is a test, you will need to keep ‘videos on’ until you submit your test.

Inquiry into Math: Integers

Learning Goal: to show understanding of what is an integer and comparing and ordering integers.
·      through discord we will take up homework as a class
·      students will then compete a quiz to show their understanding of lessons 9.1 and 9.2

Students who complete their math quiz early will be given time to practice for the in-school spelling bee or work on their “Two Kinds of Stupid” work for UOI.

Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
