Good morning everyone!
I hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable long weekend!
We will begin the day on Discord in the Grade 6 General Meeting room at 8:45am where we will review how our day will run today.
A few messages from SJA:
Daily Challenge – It’s time for the parents to go fishing! Tie some string to a pole, then tie a piece of food (soft and chewy is best – banana, bread, chewy granola bar, you choose) to the other end of the string. Now, blindfold your child, have them lay down on their back, and feed them the food with the fishing pole. Hint: this works best if you have some chocolate sauce, or honey, or something drippy and sticky that you can dip their treat in before you catch your fishy! Inquiry into Math
Learning Goal # 1: to use positive and negative tiles to represent integers.
As a class, we will go through the explanation presented in the PDF as a class and learn how to use positive and negative tiles to represent integers
Success Criteria:
· I can use positive and negative tiles to represent integers
· I understand that a zero pair is one tile representing +1 and one tile representing -1
· I understand if there are more positive tiles than negative tiles the integer is positive
· I understand if there are more negative tiles than positive tiles the integer is negative
Learning Goal#2: use positive and negative tiles to add integers.
As a class, we will go through the explanation presented in the PDF as a class and learn how to use positive and negative tiles to add integers and how to write addition equations using integers.
Students will complete homework questions 1-8
Challenge question 9-10 (optional).
Success criteria:
· I can use positive and negative tiles to add integers
· I understand the concept of zero pairs when adding integers (circle all pairs so that there are no pairs left and the tiles left over represent the answer for the problem)
I understand:
· when I add two positive integers, the sum is always positive
· when I add two negative integers, the sum is always negative
· when I add two integers with different signs, the sign of the sum is the sign that matches the greater number of tiles

Learning Goal: Students will practice for the spelling bee and be familiar with the online rules for this year’s bee.
Students will practice for the spelling bee with classmates in a Zoom meeting by adhering to all pre-existing and online rules. A zoom link will be provided.
Success Criteria: I …
· position my body so that my hands are visible
· keep looking at the camera
· say the word, spell the word, say the word
· ask for the word to be repeated if it is not clear to me
· ask for the word to be used in a sentence or I ask for a definition of the word if it is not clear to me
· participate fairly without help from anyone or anything at home
· have fun practicing even if I do not want to participate competitively

Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
