If you are one of the spelling bee contestants, be sure to keep practicing your spelling. Have someone in your family quiz you each day.
Remember to update your parents about all we are discussing during our inquiry unit. They are the most important ‘trusted adults’ in your lives.

Inquiry into My Digital Footprint
Learning Goal: Students will better understand how to protect themselves and their peers from abduction (Part 1)
Students will watch the Amy’s Choice video – a true story about a 15-year old girl who ran away from home to meet in person with a man she first met online. They answer questions about how Amy was at risk and how they can avoid similar situations by communicating with trusted adults.
Students will download the Amy’s Choice worksheet from ManageBac. Instruct students to read the sentence fragments taken from Amy’s own words, without being specific, they will tell Amy’s story in their own words. This strategy allows students to begin thinking about the topic and work with the words they will hearing before watching the video. Have students join in groups to complete this activity. Each group will then share their version --with the class. We will continue with this lesson tomorrow.
Introduce students to the Real World Safety (RWS) rules. We will discuss these in class more tomorrow.

Language: 100-word story
Continue discussing writing a story in exactly 100 words (the title is not counted as part of the story).
It can be about anything. It will be shared with the class. It will be put through the entire writing process. Today’s goal is to complete the writing of the first draft. Remind students how to use the word count feature on Word or Google Docs to count words. Once everyone understands, everyone keeps quiet and writes. At the end of class time, students share their progress. All work MUST be complete in class time and must be 100% student work.

Novel Study
Learning Goal: Students will write from the perspectives of the characters in the text
Students meet in groups to discuss their responses to Chapter 2 questions and visualising prompts. Students are then assigned to read Chapter 3, answer discussion questions, and participate in activities. Today’s activity is imagining you are one of the characters and writing about how they may be feeling. Any incomplete work must be completed as homework
Students may choose to join a breakout room where students read silently, or they may choose to join a breakout room where students take turn reading aloud.
|
Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
