Wednesday, February 13th

Hope everyone is enjoying the snow! 15 more school days until March break!

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 5.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on February 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration is now open to the public; if you have not submitted your package – please do so as soon as possible and reach out with any questions.
·      Permission forms were sent home for our trip to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. They are due no later than Wednesday, March 6th, 2019.
·      We are going skiing next Wednesday.
·      The website for hot lunches in March is now open. Please remember we are skiing on March 7thand on a trip on March 27th, so hot lunches should not be ordered for those days.
·      Tomorrow is Cookie Love for those participating!
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Language – We discussed our literature circle roles in preparation for tomorrow.

Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – Today, we continued our measurement unit by learning how to calculate the area of a triangle with respect to parallelograms and rectangles. If you slice a rectangle or parallelogram in half, you get two equal triangles. Since the area of the parallelogram is b x h, the area of the triangle inside would be (b x h)/2.

We worked on our math homework today after this.

Inquiry into Government – Today, we continued our unit on government by learning about the process of elections and voting. We had quite a deep discussion on whether or not governments should be able to have a majority government at all.

For homework:
  •  Study for spelling tomorrow (French & English)
  • MMS Pg. 138-141 (due tomorrow)
  • Literature circles week 1 (due tomorrow)
  • Government question (due tomorrow)
  • Jump Rope for Heart ends tomorrow
  • Permission Forms

All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
