Thursday, February 7th

The week is almost done! We’ve had a string of 4-day weeks going on.

Please remember that reregistration packages are due February 11th. I know this seems far away, but it is coming up quickly. On February 11th, we open spots to the public, and your child will not be guaranteed their spot! Please send the packages in sooner rather than later in case there is anything that needs to be sent back. We hope to see everyone next year!

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 1.
·      The grade four & five students performing for the oral competition will be performing from 9 – 10:30.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on February 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration packages are due no later than February 11th, 2019 – at this point we will open registration to the public, and your child will not be guaranteed their spot. We hope to see you again next year!
·      Permission forms were sent home for our trip to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. They are due no later than Wednesday, March 6th, 2019.
·      Monday is Enchanted Forest dress-up casual day. It is $2 to participate.
·      Book Fair will continue tomorrow from 1 – 5:30 and Monday from 8:30-12.
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).

Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – Today, we started our next measurement unit. Today, we started with how to find perimeter. The perimeter is the total distance around a shape. There are two ways to find the perimeter.
1.    If the shape is abstract, you can add all of the sides together.
2.    If the shape is less abstract (rectangle, square, parallelogram), you can add the length and width and multiply by 2.
a.    P = (l + w) x 2

The students received their math test for our previous unit back today. Please take the time to look over and sign them and email me with any questions.

Inquiry into Government – Today, we started our unit on Government! We started by learning about democracies and how Canada became a democracy. We discussed a few different types of government and the pros and cons. We also learned about how Canada is broken down into three levels of government: federal, provincial, and municipal. Each of these governments has its own leader. We will continue our inquiry tomorrow.

For homework:

All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.
