Thursday, February 21st

I hope everyone is having a great week so far – we have certainly been busy in grade five. 11 more school days until March break!

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 3 - it is also Friday, so students must wear their house ties.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on February 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration is now open to the public; if you have not submitted your package – please do so as soon as possible and reach out with any questions.
·      Permission forms were sent home for our trip to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. They are due no later than Wednesday, March 6th, 2019.
·      The website for hot lunches in March is now open. Please remember we are skiing on March 7thand on a trip on March 27th, so hot lunches should not be ordered for those days.
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).

Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – Today, we learned how to calculate the volume of a triangular prism. The process is actually really easy. First, you calculate the area of the base (the triangle) using the formula A = (b x h)/2. After this, you multiply the area of the triangle by the height of the prism. Therefore, the volume of a triangular prism is equal to the area of a triangle multiplied by the height of the prism.

V = A x h

Inquiry into Government – We had a discussion today regarding the First Nations people in Canada and their interactions with the Canadian government. We put together a timeline for events that have happened with the First Nations people and the Canadian government.

For homework:

All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.
