Friday, February 8th

Just like that, another week is over. We are officially 18 school days away from the March break. And two of those days are ski trips!

Please remember that reregistration packages are due this Monday, February 11th. On February 11th, we open spots to the public, and your child will not be guaranteed their spot! Please send the packages in sooner rather than later in case there is anything that needs to be sent back. We hope to see everyone next year!

Also, DRA graphs went home today. This term, students were texted with more challenging texts (either by level or by going from fiction to non-fiction). This will be reflected in their scores. They will be working on building these up for term three through our upcoming literature circles over the next few weeks. Students will be working on all of the DRA skills. During the completion of unit phone calls over the next week, I will explain more. Until then, please feel free to reach out with any questions.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Monday is a Day 2.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on February 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration packages are due no later than February 11th, 2019 – at this point we will open registration to the public, and your child will not be guaranteed their spot. We hope to see you again next year!
·      Permission forms were sent home for our trip to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. They are due no later than Wednesday, March 6th, 2019.
·      Monday is Enchanted Forest dress-up casual day. It is $2 to participate.
·      Book Fair will continue Monday from 8:30 -12.
This morning, we started our day by attending the oral competition for the grade fours and fives. It was such a great morning with such amazing speeches. I am so proud of all the grade fives and of all SJA students for all of the hard work. It took weeks of editing and re-editing of speeches. It took so much courage to stand up in front of your classmates to speak. I am proud of all of you.

Inquiry into Language – We wrote our spelling test for lesson nineteen.

Inquiry into Math – Today, we continued our measurement unit by exploring rectangles. To review: the perimeter of a rectangle can be found by adding the length and width and multiplying by 2. P = (l + w) x 2

Today, we reviewed how to find the area of a rectangle. You can find the area by multiplying the length and the width. We will continue with our inquiry on Monday.

Inquiry into Government – Today, we continued learning about Canada’s government. Today, we learned about the different responsibilities of the federal, provincial, and municipal governments. We learned about the different buildings people work in and are going to be inquiring about all the different people as well.

Inquiry into Language – At the end of the day, we read chapters eight through ten of Shannen.

For homework:
·      MMS Pg. 134 – 135
·      Shannen chapters 11 & 12
·      Government worksheets
·      Re-registration packages
·      Jump Rope for heart
·      Permission forms for trip
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
