Good morning everyone!

For today’s class, we will start the day by joining Mr. Oliver on Zoom for a meeting with all the Grade 6 classes to discuss the arts component of exhibition. The link will be provided on the Grade 6 Discord channel.

A quick message from St. Jude’s:

Today, the focus will be working on sections 14 – 19 of the Exhibition planner – Writing the Final Draft/Good Copy of the Essay, Individual Declaration of Academic Honesty, and the math, French, arts, and action components.

Don’t forget that we had our MLA citations workshop with Ms. Hayward. Students can visit Ms. Hayward’s Write It – CITE It page to review the content she discussed during her workshop.

During the exhibition process, specialist teachers (Mr. Orr, Mr. Oliver, Mme. Stella) with help facilitate learning for each of the exhibition groups during their scheduled class times. A quick message from Mr. Oliver regarding instruments: Please make sure to clean your instrument thoroughly before using it. Today’s Learning Goal # 2: Read through and understand expectations for the primary source and begin brainstorming.
·       Next steps in the exhibition planner (via live stream) – Complete Section 20. The Primary Source.
·       As part of the exhibition process, you will need to complete an interview of someone who is considered an expert in your issue.
·       For this section, you will need an adult’s help as many experts may not respond to emails from a Grade 6 student (either your parent or mentor).
·       Discuss as a group and brainstorm possible people that could be interviewed (talks to mentors and parents as well to see if they may know anyone).
·       After a decision is made, you and your group will draft an email to send to your possible interviewee that explains:
·       who you are and where you are emailing from,
·       the exhibition and the interview requirement,
·       the purpose of the interview,
·       your request for an interview to discuss your group’s issue, and
·       interview options: recorded or not recorded, video or audio or both, etc.
·       You need to have this email checked over and send by an adult.
·       Once you have scheduled an  interview, you and your group will generate questions to ask your expert to deepen your inquiry(these should be based on the key concept questions you want answered but haven’t been able to answer yet).
·       These questions will be put through the editing and revision process to help refine them to ensure you are getting the answers you want/need.
·       Once you have your final questions, you will have an adult email them to your interviewee (this helps them formulate answers to ensure you get everything you need from them).
·       The interview component can happen in many ways. This expert may email answers back to you, or you may take notes on the interview and complete another written component.
·       This will most likely look different for each group.

Today’s Learning Goal # 3:Collaboratively create the final draft (good copy) of the essay with your group.
·       Next steps in the exhibition planner (via live stream) – Complete Section 14. Writing the Final Draft/Good Copy of the Essay by the end of the day.
·       Begin this task by copying the entire essay from Section 13 and pasting it in Section 14. We are doing this so as not to lose the different versions of the essay.
·       Complete the edits that have been suggested that you agree need to be changed on your own paragraph (individual) and on the introduction & conclusion (as a group).
·       Everyone read the essay again. Make sure it is perfect.
·       Copy and paste your final draft of the essay into the document shared by your teacher (Issue – Essay Final Draft).
·       Complete the title page. Ensure you have put:
·       Name of school
·       Central Idea/Title
·       Group member names in alphabetical order by last name
·       Teacher
·       Mentor
·       Date
·       Ensure that you have correctly followed all instructions to complete:
·      Authors
·      Page numbering
·      Font
·      Font size
·      Line spacing
·      Paragraphs
·       Once all of this is done, you will complete your works cited page. Use the citation workshop information from Ms. Hayward to help you. Ensure you are correctly citing all your sources and using a hanging indent. If you used an auto generator for citations, double check them. You are fully responsible for the work you submit.
·       Complete Section 15. Individual Declaration of Academic Honesty
·       Each group member will complete one declaration of academic honesty. Read the checklist, copy and paste the checkmarks if you agree, and then put your name in the box on the line in your designated font colour. You cannot submit the essay without this declaration being completed.
·       Do not change the work/paragraphs done by your peers – it is their responsibility to edit their writing. Remember, each person will be graded on their contribution to the essay (use your designated font colour).
·       Exhibition breakout groups
If you have completed the final draft of the essay, you may move on to working on your portion for another component of the exhibition and brainstorming for your primary source. I would recommend that after completing the final draft, reading through once to ensure you are happy with your work before submitting it.

Today’s Learning Goal # 4:Decide on and/or make progress on your other components.

·       Refer to Sections 16 – 19 of your exhibition planner
Conference with your teacher to discuss your ideas, progress, learning goals and success criteria, etc.
