Good morning everyone!
Our focus for this week continues to be the final push to complete Sections 16 – 20 of the Exhibition Planner – the math, French, arts, and action components, and The Primary Source by this Thursday, April 23rd. That means you have only 2 more days to get this done.
A few quick messages from St. Jude’s:
A quick message from Mr. Neal about our daily challenge: Think you can catch a coin? Try putting it on your elbow then flipping your arm quickly to catch the coin with your hand. There's a video attached so you can see what we mean. Make a video of you catching your coin and send it to Mr. Neal (sneal@stjudesacademy.com). If the video is too big, you can always send it to him using wetransfer.com It’s free and great for sending large files.
A couple of groups have completed their surveys and we are asking for you and your parents to take some time to complete them. They will not take long:
Please take time to read Sofia and Aamna’s Action Component Daily Blog Messages About Homeless and Neglected Children
The Feelings of the Kids
Homeless Children: Half of the school-aged children get depressed after learning that they are homeless. This means that these children have twice the chance to have learning disabilities and are thrice as likely to have behavioural problems. Homeless children are bullied and abused both mentally and physically at twice the rate of a regular child. Being bullied and failing in class causes the child to be traumatized and they lose their ability to trust anyone or make any friends. Most homeless children die feeling cold or die feeling hungry this causes the parents to go to a traumatized state this in some cases this affects the siblings of the child that has died.
Neglected Children: Traumatic Experiences like neglect can have an adverse effect on a child’s brain development. Childhood abuse could impact a child’s emotional development, feeling numb and empty inside and they grow up wondering about their self worth and value. A lot of neglected children are extra sensitive to rejection and are easily overwhelmed and give up too soon. Children who are neglected often judge themselves too harshly and are hard on themselves and blame themselves for almost everything and are often disappointed or angry at themselves.
Please refer to the schedule below to know where to be and what document to be working on at various times of the day.
During the exhibition process, specialist teachers (Mr. Orr, Mr. Oliver, Mme. Stella) will help facilitate learning for each of the exhibition groups during their scheduled class times. A quick message from Mr. Oliver regarding instruments: Please make sure to clean your instrument thoroughly before using it. Continuation of Today’s Learning Goal #1.
|
Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
