Thursday, April 23rd

Good morning everyone!

Today is the final day when our class’ concerted efforts are on the final push to complete Sections 16 – 20 of the Exhibition Planner – the math, French, arts, and action components, and The Primary Source. Don’t panic if you are not done. Remember that our exhibition presentations are happening one week later than scheduled. We plan to use this extra time to figure out how to present exhibition online and to practice doing this as well as work out any technical difficulties that come our way. This extra time can also be used to catch up on any components you have fallen behind on.

A few quick messages from St. Jude’s:

A quick message from Mr. Neal about our daily challenge: Well now that’s appealing!  That’s right, it’s time to peel a banana – but just to make it fun, you can only use one hand.  Be sure to send your video to Mr. Neal. His email address is sneal@stjudesacademy.com (or if it’s too big to email you can send it via wetransfer.com).

A couple of groups have completed their surveys and we are asking for you and your parents to take some time to complete them. They will not take long:

Please take time to read Sofia and Aamna’s Action Component Daily Blog Messages About Homeless and Neglected Children
Thursday: Facts
Homeless Children: Did you know 6,000 children experience homelessness every night and some parents of homeless children send them away for money, clothes, or even food. Twenty-five percent of children that are homeless are hungry and that there are 35,000-40,000 children experiencing homelessness every year and that some children mobile clinics are spending more time with homeless children every year and they have had to increase the number of mobile clinics from 1 to 37. Did you know 63.1% of homeless children have experienced neglect in the past.
Neglected Children: Did you know that 70% of children who die of neglect are under the age of 4? Fourteen percent of men and 36% of women in prison were abused or neglected as children, and also that about 80% of 21-year olds were abused as children. About 1300 kids die each year due to child neglect and millions of girls are reported ‘Missing ‘ as a result of infanticide and neglect. Nearly 2.9 million cases of child abuse and neglect are reported yearly in the US, and about 1-10 children are neglected in the world every day.
Please refer to the schedule below to know where to be and what document to be working on at various times of the day.

During the exhibition process, specialist teachers (Mr. Orr, Mr. Oliver, Mme. Stella) will help facilitate learning for each of the exhibition groups during their scheduled class times. A quick message from Mr. Oliver regarding instruments: Please make sure to clean your instrument thoroughly before using it. Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
