Wednesday, April 3rd

I hope everyone is having a great week so far. A reminder that we are having our in-class spelling bee tomorrow, so students must be here and ready to go at 9 a.m. We will not be able to wait for anyone or accommodate any late arrivals.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 4 – tomorrow is PJ day!
·      Aftercare invoices are due on April 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration is now open to the public; if you have not submitted your package – please do so as soon as possible and reach out with any questions.

Inquiry into Biodiversity – Today, we continued our inquiry into invertebrates by each inquiring into our own invertebrate. We also completed our charts from yesterday (tree classifications for separating the different types of invertebrates). The great thing about these systems is we can classify different living organisms based on different criteria (legs/no legs, flies/doesn’t fly, underwater/on land). We will continue our inquiry on Friday.

Inquiry into Math – Today during math, we explored ratios. A ratio is a comparison of 2 quantities with the same unit. For example, let’s say you have 4 apples and 5 pears, the ratio of apples to pears would be 4 to 5 (4:5). The ratio of apples to total fruits is 4:9.

We also looked at equivalent ratios. Equivalent ratios are ratios that are equal in value with different numbers. For example, if you make a drink with 1 part water and 2 parts sugar, the ratio would be 1:2. Therefore, if you had 3 parts water, you would have multiplied the water by 3, so you would also need to multiply the sugar by 3. 2 X 3 = 6. Therefore, the new ratio would be 3:6.

Inquiry into Language – We practiced for the spelling bee today. Students have been reminded that they MUST be on time tomorrow, as we will be starting right away with our spelling bee at 9 a.m.

At the end of the day, we had the privilege of seeing not only one, but TWO teachers get pied in the face. Mrs. Hocevar and Mrs. Padovan! I'm safe for another day...

For homework:
·      Practice for spelling bee
·      MMS Pg. 126-129 (due Friday)
·      Literature circles week 2 (due Friday)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
