Tuesday, April 9th


I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

First and foremost – messages for parents.


A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 2.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on April 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration is now open to the public; if you have not submitted your package – please do so as soon as possible and reach out with any questions.
·      Forms were sent home last week for the Silent Dance taking place on April 30th– the cost is $20.
·      Forms were sent home last week regarding our upcoming Wizard of Ozproduction. It will cost $15 per student (not in a main role) for costumes.
·      Scholastic order forms were sent home last week.

We started the day by going to the grades 4 & 5 spelling bee. Congratulations to all of the winners on a job well done, and great job to all those who participated. 





Inquiry into Language – Today, we began our third set of literature circles for Hatchet.
1.    Summariser – Summarise the three chapters for the week.
2.    Connector – Connect what is happening in the text to your own life, current world events, and other books, movies, or television shows.
3.    Literary Critic – Choose a short passage from the book and analyse why it is important to the story.
4.    Discussion Moderator – Come up with questions to fuel a group discussion.
5.    Word Wizard – Define and explain new or interesting words.
Students also worked on spelling lesson 26, which is a continuation of learning on suffixes.

In the afternoon, we went to watch the grade six spellers in their spelling bee. Very well done to everyone who participated!



Inquiry into Math – Students worked in class on their fractions review for the upcoming unit test on Thursday.




Inquiry into Biodiversity – Today we completed our inquiry into the final three kingdoms: fungi, monera, and protist. We learned about the different organisms living inside each of these kingdoms. Tomorrow, we will continue by talking about why biodiversity is so important. 

After this, we practiced our dance for the upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.

·      Complete math review (due tomorrow)
·      Study for French spelling test
·      Spelling lesson 26 (due tomorrow)
·      Literature circles week 3 (due Friday)
·      Silent Dance form
·      Wizard of Oz forms
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.
