Friday, April 5th

I hope you have all had a great week. I can’t believe another week is over. It just hit me today that there are only 10 weeks left of grade five!

First and foremost – messages for parents.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Monday is a Day 6.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on April 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration is now open to the public; if you have not submitted your package – please do so as soon as possible and reach out with any questions.
·      Forms were sent home today for the Silent Dance taking place on April 30th– the cost is $20.
·      Forms were sent home today regarding our upcoming Wizard of Ozproduction. It will cost $15 per student (not in a main role) for costumes.
·      Scholastic order forms were sent home today.

Inquiry into Biodiversity – Today, we continued our inquiry into the animal kingdom by learning about vertebrates. We learned about five types of vertebrates today – fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals. We looked into the characteristics of each.

We had an opportunity to go outside and actually explore what we’ve learned so far in biodiversity with a scavenger hunt. We identified coniferous and deciduous trees, simple and compound leaves, and vertebrates and invertebrates.

We then came back and finished our anchor charts that we started on Monday when we learned about invertebrates. We will continue on Monday when we learn about fish.

After our UOI period, we had reading buddies since we were not able to on Wednesday.

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

After French, we had our technology hour for everyone participating.

Inquiry into Language – We wrote our spelling test for lesson 25.

It has been such a crazy busy week. Due to that fact, I have moved literature circles to Monday. There has been so much going on this week and I don’t feel that students have had the chance to put their best work forward.

Today for Spring Fundraiser, we got to see two teachers get pied - Mr. Foster & me! It was so much fun! Too bad I didn't get to eat any pie.

For homework:
·      MMS Pg. 126-131 (due Monday)
·      Literature circles week 2 (due Monday)
·      Mammal Investigation (due Monday)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
