I hope everyone is having a great week so far. I woke up this morning to the most beautiful light layer of snow on my car – I can’t wait for it to really snow. I love the winter.
Today, we started off with reading buddies! Our grade five readers read with the grade ones, and them asked them questions about the books they are reading. Oh, how the tables have turned! They went from answering comprehension questions for me, to creating their own!
After, this we worked on some art. We did our handprints for Kindness Day first, so we could contribute to the Kindness tree being made by Oakwood. After this, we worked on our Greek vases. However, these are done with a modern touch. Students were able to design the vases with things that represent their school life, family life, hobbies, and friendships.
Then, we had our library time. We LOVE going to the library. This is always when everyone gets the most excited!
French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – Today, we started our Geometry unit by doing an investigation into different types of angles. We reviewed our knowledge from last year, which are acute, right, and obtuse angles. An acute angle is less than 90 degrees, a right angle is exactly 90 degrees, and an obtuse angle is more than 90 degrees, but less than 180 degrees. We continued by adding on straight angles which are exactly 180 degrees, and reflex angles, which are more than 180 degrees, but less than 360 degrees.
We measured out these angles on paper, and practiced drawing them as well.
Inquiry into Ancient Civilizations – We started our inquiry into ancient Egypt today. We talked about daily life in Egypt, mapped out Ancient Egypt, words used in ancient Egypt and their meanings, and the ritual of embalming.
