Thursday, November 1st

Happy Thursday!

Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com)

After gym, we had a conversation about responsibility and expectations. Students should be arriving to school, putting their bags in their lockers, and bringing only their work to class. They should put their homework into our homework bins, and go to the gym if I am not in the class to supervise. Students should ensure they are completing work daily.

The second half of our conversation was regarding gym and house points. Students are expected to be at assembly daily, which starts at 8:45. This is when they hand in their house points. If they are not handed in at that time, they have until Friday. On Friday after assembly, all unused points come back to me. For gym, the bus is supposed to be leaving at 9 a.m. If students are not there for the bus, they may have to sit at the front desk and wait for the class to come back (or their parents can drive them to the dome).

Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – Today, we continued to talk about surface area and volume. It is the largest concept of this unit. We did an activity in groups to solve for surface area and volume, and took them up as a class afterward (I explained how I would mark them on a test). After today, everyone felt they had a better understanding of surface area and volume. We will continue to conversion of measurements tomorrow.

Inquiry into Language – We worked on our comprehension work for chapter 21 of Percy Jackson, which we read yesterday.

Inquiry into Ancient Civilizations – Today, we started our discussion of Ancient Greece by talking about the Olympians and the Titans (the mythological Greek gods and goddesses). We learned a lot of interesting facts about this Ancient Civilization. It is so fascinating to see how many influences these ancient cultures have had on us today.

For homework:

All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Students need to wear their winter uniform, so ALL 7 pieces. We had a few uniform slip-ups last week; this week and ongoing, the expectation is full winter uniform every day.

o  Navy blue socks
o  St. Jude’s grey pants or skirts
o  St. Jude’s button up white shirt (long sleeve)

·      Forms were sent home last Wednesday for our curling trip on November 19th, and December 3rd. This trip was already paid in athletic fees, so the form only needs to be signed.
