I hope everyone is having a great week so far! We are busy here in grade five.
A couple of quick reminders:
· The lunch website opened for the month of December, and will close on November 30that 3 p.m. sharp. The special for the month is spaghetti and meatballs.
· Tomorrow is the last day to hand in any funds raised for the Poinsettia plants for our Oakwood fundraiser.
· Tomorrow is a Day 6.
· Permission forms and waiver forms were sent home today for our upcoming ski trips in the new year. These must be returned and signed by Tuesday, December 11thfor those attending.
This morning, we started with reading buddies with Ms. Brew’s class. After this, we did some reflection. We reflected on our summative tasks for ancient civilizations, as well as reflected on our first few months of grade five. We wrote about what we’ve learned, some of our strengths, our areas of improvement, and what we love about grade five!
French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – Today, we continued our unit on Decimals by learning how we estimate the sums and differences of decimals.
Let’s say you have the numbers 5.657 & 1.231.
For addition…
· You can round them to the nearest whole numbers (6 + 1 = 7)
· You can round one of the numbers to the nearest whole number (6 + 1.231 = 7.231)
· You can round to the tenths (5.7 + 1.2 = 6.9)
· You can round to the hundredths (5.66 + 1.23 = 6.89)
For subtraction…
· You can round the second number to the nearest whole number (5.657 – 1 = 4.657)
· You can round to the tenths (5.7 – 1.2 = 4.5)
· You can round to the hundredths (5.66 – 1.23 = 4.43)
Inquiry into Ancient Civilizations – We presented our summative tasks today to the class! Invitations were sent home yesterday for our showcase happening this Friday between 2:30 and 3:15. Parents are welcome to attend!
For homework:
· MMS Pg. 52 – 53 (due tomorrow)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.
