Good morning everyone!
The weather is supposed to be nice and warm today, but there is an 80% chance of rain. That makes it a good day to be doing online school! I look forward to spending another day with you all.
Remember to update your parents about all we are discussing during our inquiry unit. They are the most important ‘trusted adults’ in your lives.
A few messages from SJA:
Daily Challenge – It’s time to get outside and have some fun! This week we’re giving you a list of 7 activities – to win you need to do 4 of them. You choose your challenges and we’ll judge the winner.
We’re also changing up the prize! The winner gets to choose any video game of their choice (so long as we can order on Amazon)! We’ll have it shipped to your house as soon as possible!
Don’t forget to send your entries to Mr. Neal: sneal@stjudesacademy.com
Here are your activity choices:
· Draw a picture of your favourite WINTER activity with sidewalk chalk on the sidewalk or driveway.
· Draw a hopscotch board and do it forwards and backwards (if it’s rainy or you want to do it indoors, you can always draw your hopscotch board with masking tape on the floor)
· Kick a ball into a net (don’t worry, a net can any two things marking a 5 foot spread) – but here’s the challenge: do it from as far back as possible. Tell us how far back you were when it when in!
· Take a spoon and an egg (feel free to use hardboiled, but not necessary). Run 15 feet in one direction then back again while balancing the egg in the spoon.
· Neighbourhood search. With you parent’s permission (and hopefully with their attendance) go for a walk and take pictures of you with the following things:
· A stop sign,
· Your street name sign
· A blue flower,
· Something with a tail,
· Something round,
· A fire hydrant
· It’s LIMBO time! Get help from parents or siblings: do some limbo and show us how low you can go!
· Is it a rainy day? Put on your rain gear and go jump in some puddles! Extra points to the students who makes the biggest splash!
· Bonus Idea (in case it doesn’t rain): Fly a kite! Let’s see how high you can make it go!!
Have fun everyone! I can’t wait to see what you do.

Novel Study
Learning Goal: Students will compare and contrast text characters.
Keep thinking of ideas for Fantastical Forest Scene Bridge to Terabithia art project. Here is another way the artwork can be done:
We will meet as a whole class to discuss their responses to Chapter 7 questions. You will then read Chapter 8, answer discussion questions, and participate in activities. For today’s activity you will use a graphic organiser to show the ways that Jess and Leslie are alike and different. Any incomplete work must be completed as homework.
You may choose to join a breakout room where students read silently, or you may choose to join a breakout room where students take turns reading aloud.

Inquiry into My Digital Footprint
Learning Goal: Students will learn what sexting is and how to respond to requests for sexts and what to do if they receive a sext.
Download the Stuff to Know worksheet from ManageBac under ‘Tasks.’ We will discuss this sheet as a class and you will fill in the blanks and upload it by the end of today’s lesson.
Today will focus on a certain kind of inappropriate messages and images – sexting.
What is ‘sexting?’ What does ‘sexting’ mean?
Unfortunately for students, parents and schools, this is a growing phenomenon among teenagers today. The most common reason cited by teenagers for engaging in this illicit behavior is that it is "fun or flirtatious." However, this behavior is not only degrading and embarrassing, but it is also illegal. Creating, transmitting, and even possessing a nude, semi-nude, or sexually explicit image of a minor can be considered child pornography. Moreover, it can be prosecuted as a provincial or federal felony, and it can even lead to having to register as a sex offender.
Your body is a sacred space and that no one deserves to view it, much less touch it.
We will breakout into groups and discuss the following documents
· You Sent a Sext. Now What?
· Tween Tips
· Think Before you Send
After you have had the opportunity to read and discuss these documents in small groups we will join together as a class to discuss further if you are comfortable doing so or to allow for questions to be asked.
It is important for you to talk to your parents about what we have discussed.

Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out so I can clarify and assist.
