I hope everyone is having a fantastic week so far! Can you believe there are only 15 days of school left?!
A few messages from SJA:
Daily Challenge – Since you all seemed to like the fun of choosing your events, we’re going to give you 7 more challenges, and you need to do 4 of them.
This week we’re offering 3 prizes: A video game of your choice for 1st place (max $50, must be able to order on Amazon), a $25 Indigo gift card for 2nd place and a $10 Indigo gift card for 3rd place.
Here are your 7 choices, remember to do 4 of them and email them to Mr. Neal (sneal@stjudesacademy.com or send via wetransfer.com if they’re too big to email):
1. Time for a bug hunt! Borrow your parent’s cell phone (with their permission of course!) and get out into nature, find at least 5 different bugs. Bonus points if you can name them all!
2. No one did this one last week, so we’re posting it again: Wednesday is supposed to be a rainy day, so put on your rain gear and go jump in some puddles! Extra points to the student who makes the biggest splash!
3. Take a book outside and spend 15 minutes reading under a tree. Make sure Mom or Dad takes a picture of you!
4. Pay it forward: Take a video of you singing “You Are My Sunshine” to an elderly neighbour (from a safe distance of course!)
5. With your parent’s help, bake some cookies! Take a few pictures of you baking, and at least one of you enjoying the results.
6. Draw a picture of the #1 thing you’re hoping to do this summer.
7. Take a box, set it at least 2 meters away from you, and throw a ball into it – let’s see you get 3 in a row.

Novel Study
Meet as a whole class to discuss their responses to Chapter 12 questions. Students are then assigned to read Chapter 13, answer discussion questions, and participate in activities. Today’s activity is making connections. Sometimes when we read something it reminds us of something similar that happened to us and of how we felt. This can help us understand what we have read. Students use the chart provided to write about three connections they made while reading this book. They then show how the connections they made helped them understand what they read.

Inquiry into My Digital Footprint
Review the different parts to the final project.
Remind students to decide on and/or organize the following:
· the grades they want to teach (mature topics should be geared to students in Grade 6 – 8)
· which class they will teach their lesson to (this must be arranged by the student groups themselves)
In-class presentations will take place June 15 – 17. Students will be evaluated at this time.
Presentations to other classes will take place on June 18 & 19.
Today’s goals are to:
· Complete the planning of their presentation/skit/activities
· Begin practicing their presentation/skit/activities
Remind students to focus on responsibility & perspective in their presentation/skit/activity. For example:
Perspective – What are the different points of view?
· Online privacy: When children are online, do they think about people who prowl the internet for personal information to misuse? How would someone misuse someone else’s personal information? What have they got to gain?
· Digital ethics: What are the rules people should use when using the internet? What are the rules that govern our society? Why are these rules necessary?
· Cyberbullying: What does it feel like to be a cyberbully? What are the motives of a cyberbully? What do they get out of this? What does cyberbullying look like? What does it feel like to be cyberbullied?
Responsibility – What is my responsibility?
· Online Privacy – What are some of the common mistakes do children make when it comes to online privacy? What should children know about online privacy? What steps can and should children take to protect their personal information?
· Cyberbullying – Why do children need to be educated about the cyberbullying? Why was this not an issue when your parents were children? What are ways that children can deal with cyberbullies?
ATL Skills – metacognition. Explain to students that metacognition is about thinking/analysing your thinking. AS they prepare to teach younger students these lessons, they need to think about how they learn and what teaching methods are most effective to helping them understand and learn. As a class, have students share teaching moments and methods that were effective for them. Students should consider their own and each other’s learning styles and use these ideas to design their lesson.

Work that is not completed during class time will need to be completed as homework. Students should put more focus into reading at this time. It is an expectation that students are reading between 30 and 60 minutes per day.
