Wednesday, December 12th

I hope you are having a great week so far. It has certainly been a busy week here in grade five.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is Day 3.
·      The lunch website has opened for the month of January – it will close on December 19that 3 p.m. The special for the month of January is French Toast with fruit. Please keep in mind the grade five classes are going skiing on Wednesday, January 23rd, so lunches should not be ordered for that day.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on December 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Pictures were sent home today for the students who ordered them.
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com)

After gym, we had some rehearsal time for our Christmas concert performance.

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – Today, the students worked on their review sheets for the final unit test Friday.

Our final math assessment for the decimals unit will be this Friday.

Inquiry into Language – Today, we furthered our knowledge of persuasive writing. Yesterday, we learned the OREO method:
1.    O – Opinion
2.    R – Reasons
3.    E – Examples
4.    O – Opinion (restated differently)
Today, we extended that knowledge. Students now know that to support our points, we need to provide two or three examples for each reason given in different paragraphs. There should be five paragraphs, with indentation, and proper spelling and grammar.

For homework:
·      Math Review (due tomorrow)
·      Spelling Lesson 14 (due tomorrow)
·      OWA sheets (due tomorrow)
·      Practice for Christmas concert
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
