Tuesday, December 4th

I hope you all had a nice, relaxing weekend.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is Day 3.
·      Permission forms and waiver forms were sent home last week for our upcoming ski trips in the new year. These must be returned and signed by Tuesday, December 11thfor those attending.
·      The website to book times to meet for the student led conferences is open; I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.

Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com)

After gym, we copied our spelling words into our agendas for the week.

Music – Then, we had music. For music today, we practiced our song for the Christmas concert!

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

In the afternoon, we practiced for the Christmas concert again! We had a full rehearsal with all the grades three through six.

Inquiry into Math – Today, we learned how to properly add and subtract decimals. It’s pretty much exactly the same as adding and subtracting whole numbers, but there are decimals too.

To add:
1.    Write the decimal in the answer section in line with the other decimals.
2.    Add the numbers by place value starting on the right.
3.    Make sure you carried your numbers correctly.
4.    Check your answer using subtraction.
To subtract:
1.    Write the decimal in the answer section in line with the other decimals.
2.    Subtract the numbers by place value.
3.    Make sure you borrowed your numbers properly.
4.    Check your answer using addition.
The important thing to remember is that the decimals in your numbers all need to be in line with one another. If the decimals don’t line up, the answer will be incorrect.

Inquiry into the Human Body – Today, we completed our KWL chart for the Human Body. We have a lot of great questions for our unit. We started with the skeletal system today, learning about different bones in the body. We will continue with our inquiry tomorrow.

For homework:
·      MMS Pg. 54-55 (due tomorrow)
·      Human Body activities 1 & 3 (due tomorrow)
·      Spelling Lesson 13 (due Thursday)
·      Reflection sheet (due tomorrow)
·      20 minutes of reading
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
