Monday, December 10th


I hope you all had a nice, relaxing weekend.

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is Day 1.
·      Permission forms and waiver forms were sent home for our upcoming ski trips in the new year. These must be returned and signed by TOMORROW Tuesday, December 11thfor those attending.
·      The lunch website has opened for the month of January – it will close on December 19that 3 p.m. The special for the month of January is French Toast with fruit.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on December 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
Gym – The students started the day doing gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com)

Inquiry into Math – Today, we extended our knowledge of decimals by learning how to multiply decimals by one-digit whole numbers. It’s actually very easy! Let’s say you are multiplying 1.698 by 2. It can be done in 4 simple steps:
1.    Estimate. 1.698 rounds to 2; 2 x 2 = 4
2.    Remove the decimal.
a.    1.698à1698
3.    Multiply.
a.    1698 x 2 = 3396
4.    Replace the decimal.
a.    3396à3.396





Inquiry into Math – In the afternoon, we extended our knowledge further by learning how to divide decimals by one-digit whole numbers. Let’s say you are dividing 1.698 by 2. It can be done in 4 simple steps:
1.    Estimate. 1.698 rounds to 2; 2 / 2 = 1
2.    Remove the decimal.
a.    1.698à1698
3.    Divide.
a.    1698 / 2 = 849
4.    Replace the decimal.
a.    849à0.849









Our final math assessment for the decimals unit will be this Friday.

Inquiry into the Human Body – Today, we continued our inquiry into the human body. We wrote our quiz on the skeletal system. We then began our inquiry into the circulatory system. We learned about the heart and how blood is carried throughout the body.
