Good afternoon everyone!
Happy Friday!
During the morning today, we had
gym with Mr. Orr, and music with Mr. Oliver. You can read more about what was
done on their blogs (the links are on the left hand side). In the afternoon, we
had French, which you can read about more on Mme. Rawan’s blog (link on the
left hand side).
Inquiry into Math – Today we were
looking at comparing numbers, so we looked at multiples. A multiple is a number
that is multiplied out from another number. For example: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18,
21, 24, 27, 30 are all multiples of 3 since three multiplies to get them. After
this, we looked at common multiples, which are common numbers between two sets
of multiples. For example:
Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36
Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36
12, 24, and 36 are common multiples because they
appear in both sets of numbers. We did some examples in class together on the
board.
Then, we completed an activity on
our hundred chart.
Inquiry into Language – We had our
first spelling test of the year today. These will be marked over the weekend
and sent home to be signed on Monday.
Inquiry into Matter – We continued
our discussions on matter today by discussing what happens to matter when it
changes between states. Going from solid to liquid is called melting, going from liquid to gas is
called evaporating, going from gas
to liquid is called condensing
(condensation), and going from liquid to solid is called freezing.
The students completed a
fill-in-the-blank activity after our discussion.
And just like that, our week was
done!
For homework:
A couple of quick reminders:
- · If you have not returned the last page of the SJA Student/Parent Handbook and bussing permission forms, I have sent home new copies that will need to be signed and returned to me Monday.
- · Mr. Beresford and our athletic division have planned a trip to the golf range for our grade. This trip was included in the athletic fees for grade fives. A permission form was sent home to be signed – it is due back to me by September 24th.
- As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.
