I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend! A reminder that students must come dressed in casual clothes tomorrow because we are painting and I do not want their uniforms to get stained.
A few quick reminders:
· Tomorrow is a Day 2 (students can come dressed in casual clothes for painting).
· Aftercare invoices for the month of October have come out and were due Friday, November 15th, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
· Any unpaid invoices (lunch or aftercare) by Friday will result in report cards being withheld.
· Pick-a-Time forms have been sent home with instructions on how to sign up for a time to meet during student-led conferences taking place next Thursday, December 5th.
Inquiry into Math – Today, we started by taking up the homework from Friday. Students were given a copy of the answer key so they can see what the expectations are.
After this, we started by looking at mixed and improper fractions. A mixed fraction is when there is a whole number and a fraction beside it (Ex. 1 ½). An improper fraction is one where the numerator is higher than the denominator. To go from mixed to improper, you multiply the whole number by the denominator, and then add that to the original numerator. To go from improper to mixed, you divide the numerator by the denominator. The answer is your whole number and your remainder is your numerator.
After this, we explored repeated addition of fractions. In the past, we’ve explored repeated addition as multiplication. If we have a group of identical fractions that are being added, we can multiply them. (½ + ½ + ½ = 3/2; or we can write ½ x 3)
After this, we watched our dance video so we could review our dance moves and we read through our script. Here are the links for the song for our Christmas Concert song:
And the finale song:
French – After this, we had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Flight – We spent our UOI time today working on our summative tasks. Students worked on identifying variables, materials, procedures, and building their planes. Tomorrow, we will be looking at testing our flying devices and completing all of our trials.
Art – Today, we started by painting everything white so that we can paint the designs tomorrow! Students should come dressed down again tomorrow for painting. They should practice their basket weaving: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Atikz2Y4si0&t=25s
Homework:
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
