I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far. Our break before the new year is getting closer and closer.
A message from the parent guild…
And a message from the student council…
On December 17, 2019, students from Grade 3 to Grade 8 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Academy Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.
For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Please meet in the main office.
We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.
A few quick reminders:
· Tomorrow is a Day 2.
· Aftercare invoices for the month of November have come out and are due Sunday, December 15th, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
· Ski trip forms and waivers are due back on Friday.
· The hot lunch site is now open for January. Please do not order lunch on January 14th and 22nd as we have scheduled trips.
We started the morning by writing our wish lists for Secret Santa!
Inquiry into Explorers – We spent the remainder of the morning starting our research projects for our Powtoon. Students are researching a group of Canada’s First Peoples before contact with the Europeans. They are researching that group and are going to create a Powtoon to share their research with the class.
Inquiry into Language – After lunch, we went through our answers for novel study. We again went through what makes a good answer, which is: the answer is correct, uses the question in the answer, and provides detail.
An answer that is an ‘R’ means that the work is incomplete, or the answer shows no understanding. A level one answer has the correct answer but has no detail and does not use the question to provide the answer. A level two is correct and uses part of the question to answer the question (saying ‘They’ instead of ‘Mae Tuck, her husband, Miles, and Jesse’), but has no detail. A level three is correct and uses the question in the answer but does not provide detail. A level four has the correct answer, uses the question in the answer, and provides additional detail or possibly a relevant connection to the story (using the information to make an educated guess).
Inquiry into Explorers – We continued our research work from this morning.
We had our Christmas Concert rehearsal this afternoon.
Students should be listening to our songs and rehearsing for Christmas Concert nightly. Here are the links for the song for our Christmas Concert song:

Homework:
- Read chapters 17-19 for TE and complete pages 47-51 in novel study package (due tomorrow)
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework. For math, students are given math homework, extra practice (optional), and a challenge question (optional).
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
