We have our JK – Grade 2 Christmas Concert tonight!
A message from the parent guild: The SJA Parent Guild is pleased to hold its 2nd Christmas Skate for all students and parents/guardians to celebrate the festive season and enjoy some time together. Any proceeds will go towards ongoing fundraising efforts. This event will take place on Thursday, December 12 from 3:30-5:30 pm at Meadowvale 4-Rinks. Ice time from 4:00-5:00 pm.
Bring your own skates or skate rental option is also available. There will be hot chocolate and treats for students and Santa will be ready for selfies! Forms will be distributed Thursday. Forms and payment are due by Monday, December 2nd to the homeroom teacher. Please return forms and payment as soon as possible! We will be accepting non-perishable food donations for the Food Bank so please feel free to bring items in. See you there! · Tomorrow is a Day 1.
· Aftercare invoices for the month of November have come out and are due Sunday, December 15th, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
· Ski trip forms and waivers are due back on Friday.
· The hot lunch site is now open for January. Please do not order lunch on January 14th and 22nd as we have scheduled trips.
Art – This morning we started by looking up different Haida art animal designs, which we will be working with over the next couple of days.
Inquiry into Language – After this, we went through our answers for novel study. We again went through what makes a good answer, which is: the answer is correct, uses the question in the answer, and provides detail.
An answer that is an ‘R’ means that the work is incomplete, or the answer shows no understanding. A level one answer has the correct answer but has no detail and does not use the question to provide the answer. A level two is correct and uses part of the question to answer the question (saying ‘They’ instead of ‘Mae Tuck, her husband, Miles, and Jesse’), but has no detail. A level three is correct and uses the question in the answer but does not provide detail. A level four has the correct answer, uses the question in the answer, and provides additional detail.
Inquiry into Explorers – We talked about the first formative for the unit. We will be creating a Powtoon. Students will be creating a Powtoon account and YouTube account if they do not already have one for this project. I will review with them the expectations for this. Only their voices will be in the videos – no images or videos of them.
Gym – After recess and lunch, the students had gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).
After this, we went to watch the first performance of the JK – Grade 2 Christmas Concert. It was so good – I hope everyone can make it tonight.
At the end of the day, we wrote our agendas and worked on novel study to lighten the homework for tonight (since many have siblings in the concert).

We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework. For math, students are given math homework, extra practice (optional), and a challenge question (optional).
