Inquiry into Explorers – This morning, we actually started off colouring maps that outline the physical and climate regions of Canada. The reason we did this is to inquire into how the physical and climate regions different groups lived in impacted their way of life.
After this, we looked at how various groups lived and sorted them into different categories. Any incomplete map/comparison work is homework.
French – After this, we had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Math – After lunch, we wrote our final unit test for Unit 4.
Inquiry into Language – After this, we went through our answers for novel study. We again went through what makes a good answer, which is: the answer is correct, uses the question in the answer, and provides detail.
An answer that is an ‘R’ means that the work is incomplete, or the answer shows no understanding. A level one answer has the correct answer but has no detail and does not use the question to provide the answer. A level two is correct and uses part of the question to answer the question (saying ‘They’ instead of ‘Mae Tuck, her husband, Miles, and Jesse’), but has no detail. A level three is correct and uses the question in the answer but does not provide detail. A level four has the correct answer, uses the question in the answer, and provides additional detail.
Inquiry into Explorers – At the end of the day, we read three legends and looked at the characteristics of a First Nations legend. We talked about how a First Nations Story may:
· Contain four events
· Reflect life and/or nature
· Be based on facts and truths
· Begin in the past to explain an event or teach a lesson
· Involve changes of the inner spirit
· Involve a Trickster character who is part human and part spirit.
We examined these characteristics together.
Students should be listening to our songs and rehearsing for Christmas Concert nightly. Here are the links for the song for our Christmas Concert song:
And the finale song:
Homework:
- UOI: Complete any unfinished classwork (maps, comparison chart, legends).
- Language: Read chapters 11-13 for Tuck Everlasting and complete pages 37-41 in novel study package.
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework. For math, students are given math homework, extra practice (optional), and a challenge question (optional).
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
