Wednesday, October 30th

I hope you're all having an excellent week despite this rainy weather.

A few quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 4 (students participating in the spirit day do not need a change of clothes for gym).
·      Aftercare invoices for the month of September have come out and were due Tuesday, October 15th, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Field Trip permission forms were sent home for our trip to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum on November 21st. The cost is $27 – please return forms and money as soon as possible.
·      Curling permission forms and waiver forms were sent home today and are due back Thursday, November 7th. This trip has no cost as it was already paid for in the athletic fees during registration.

Inquiry into Math – We started the day by continuing to create our shapes from yesterday and recording the information in our charts.

Music – Then, we had music with Mr. Oliver, which you can read about on his blog (https://mrolivermusicclass.blogspot.com).

French – After this, we had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – After lunch, we continued our inquiry and will be taking up all of our shapes tomorrow.

Inquiry into Air – Today, we started looking at how hot air balloons work, and doing some investigation into why things float. We watched a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFkGJEI2eUQ) to examine how hot air balloons are able to fly. We will be looking at this more in-depth tomorrow as we prepare for Monday’s test. We will also take up our experiments.

Inquiry into Language – Students were given back their Before Midnight poems for a final revision. They will complete their final copy and read and submit them tomorrow. A reminder that Before Midnight poems should…
·      Have a spooky theme
·      Use all of the senses (touch, smell, taste, sound, sight)
·      Does not rhyme
·      Lines can be long or short but can’t go to the next line
·      Lines 1-5 count down to midnight (At ‘x’ minutes before midnight)
·      Line 6 starts with ‘At midnight’
·      Use a time formula pattern

We ended the day by working on our book reports for City of Ember.

Homework:
  • Lessons 3.1 & 3.2 practice sheets
  • Complete 'Hot Air Balloon' questions.
  • Complete 'Aerodynamics' investigations
  • Good copy of 'Before Midnight' poems
  • Halloween/Harvest Spirit Day
  • Warplane Museum forms and money
  • Curling trip forms and waivers

We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.

As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.

Mr. Conte
