I hope everyone is having a great week so far!
A few quick reminders:
· Tomorrow is a Day 3.
· The hot lunch site is now open for November! The special this month is chicken stir fry, which is available every Friday. Please DO NOT order lunch for Thursday, November 21st as we are going on a field trip that day! The lunch site will close October 30th at 3:00 p.m. and payments will be due by November 6th.
· Aftercare invoices for the month of September have come out and were due Tuesday, October 15th, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
· Field Trip permission forms were sent home for our trip to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum on November 21st. The cost is $27 – please return forms and money as soon as possible.
· Curling permission forms and waiver forms were sent home today and are due back Thursday, November 7th. This trip has no cost as it was already paid for in the athletic fees during registration.
Inquiry into Air – We started the day by writing our mid-unit test for air. We will continue tomorrow by starting to examine flight. Students will have a small assessment for flight on Monday.
French – After this, we had French with Mme. Stella, which you can read about on her blog (https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com).
Gym – After recess and lunch, the students had gym with Mr. Orr, which you can read about on his blog (http://tysonorr.blogspot.com).
Inquiry into Language – We started working on our City of Ember book reports today.
Students handed in their Before Midnight poems. I will look at these tonight and then give them back tomorrow with feedback. Students will then complete a final good copy. A reminder that Before Midnight poems should…
· Have a spooky theme
· Use all of the senses (touch, smell, taste, sound, sight)
· Does not rhyme
· Lines can be long or short but can’t go to the next line
· Lines 1-5 count down to midnight (At ‘x’ minutes before midnight)
· Line 6 starts with ‘At midnight’
· Use a time formula pattern
Inquiry into Math – We started the math period by reviewing the answers from yesterday’s lesson. After this, we moved on to today’s lesson – building objects from nets.
We began by working in small groups to cut out nets of 3D objects, and then folding and taping them to become 3D objects.
While completing their shapes, students worked on a chart to identify different properties of the 3D shape they had created.
We will continue this investigation tomorrow.
Homework:
We do our best to complete work in class. In the event this is not possible, it will go home for homework.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
Mr. Conte
