Monday, March 4th

I hope you all had a great weekend. 4 more school days until March break!

Spirit Week continues tomorrow – it is Superhero, Princess, or Tie-Dye day!

A couple of quick reminders:
·      Tomorrow is a Day 4.
·      Permission forms were sent home last week for our Scientists in the School workshop on April 18th. These forms are due back by next Friday, March 8th– no exceptions.
·      Aftercare invoices are due on March 15th; if you are unsure if you have any owing amount, please email Ms. Chiappetta at echiappetta@stjudesacademy.com
·      Re-registration is now open to the public; if you have not submitted your package – please do so as soon as possible and reach out with any questions.

We started our day with a house game – great job to Zeta for winning this one!

Inquiry into Language – We read the epilogue as a class and had a discussion regarding the First Nations people and the struggles they still face with the government today.

We then worked on lesson 23 for spelling. The grade five spellers worked on deconstructing three syllable words, and the grade six spellers worked on words that have different prefixes.

We had reading buddies today!

French – In the afternoon, we had French with Mme. Rawan, which you can read about on her blog (https://mmerawansja.blogspot.com).

Inquiry into Math – We started a new unit on fractions today. Fractions are used to represent numbers that are not whole numbers. Fractions are made up of a numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number). Equivalent fractions are two fractions that are equal in value, but with different numbers. For example, 1/5 = 2/10.

You multiply the numerator and denominator by the same numbers to get equivalent fractions.

Similarly, if you have a large fraction, you can reduce it by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same numbers.

Inquiry into Government – We continued working on our government summative tasks. The final products are due on Wednesday.

For homework:
·      MMS Pg. 111 (due tomorrow)
·      Health brochure (due tomorrow)
·      Government summative (due Wednesday)
All homework for the day is placed here, but time may have been given in class to complete this work.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Mr. Conte
